Chiwetel Ejiofor’s directorial debut ‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’ goes on Netflix on March 1

The movie screened at the Special selection of the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) alongside other movies.

Chiwetel Ejiofor’s directorial debut, ‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’ is billed for release on Netflix on March 1, 2019.

Speaking on the movie, Ejiofor, who also featured in the movie said, “There’s a strong appetite for these films and for a diversity of voices and for this idea that we’re all kind of culturally enriched when we understand where different people are coming from.

“Seeing stories… from one point of view is not very rewarding ultimately. I’m just looking forward to being a continuing part of that positive change,” he said.

Continuing, the ‘12 Years a Slave’ star said, “To get emotional truth of the story, I spent a lot of time with William.

“I came to Malawi to experience the book from the actual ground. I met his family, friends and saw the village where everything took place.

“William, his family and people live these incredibly epic lives and that was something that I really found in the book. It’s an epic story.”

‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’ (based on the semi-autographical book of the same name) tells the story of a thirteen-year-old boy in Malawi who invents an unconventional way to save his family and village from famine. The movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Maxwell Simba.
